MOH Scale

The MOH scale is a guide developed in the 1800’s which helps evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the natural stone being used much the same as the Janka Scale (previously shown) does for wood.

As an example, softer stones would require the use of a less active chemical cleaning agent and a more frequent dusting while more hardened materials may require less of everything. Please note that not all minerals listed below are quarried and slab cut as is typical Granite or Marble.

A great many of the minerals below shown are captured within Granite, Marble or Quartzite slabs and add their strength and durability.
